HAND ODDS AND POKER ODDS

Hand odds are the chances of making a hand in Texas Hold'em poker. For example if a player hold two hearts and there are two hearts on the flop, the hand odds for making a flush are about 2 to 1. That means that for every 3 times the player plays this hand, he can expect to hit flush one of those 3 times.

To calculate hand odds, you first need to know how many outs your hand has. An out is defined as a card in the deck that helps you make your hand.

You can only calculate odds with the knowledge of your pocket cards and the cards on the table. When calculating outs, it is important not to over count your odds.

HOW TO CALCULATE HAND ODDS

Once you know how to count the number of outs for a hand, you can calculate what percentage of the time you will hit your hand by the river. It is simply calculated as Total Outs divided by Remaining cards.

To change a percentage to odds, the formula is: Odds = ( 1 / Percentage) – 1 .

POT ODDS AND POKER ODDS

Pot odds are simply the ratio of the amount of money in the pot to how much money it costs to call. The higher the ratio, the better your pot odds are. Pot odds ratios are useful to see how often you need to win the hand to break even. If your Pot Odds are greater than your Hand Odds, then it indicates that you are making a profit in the long run. So always remember that fundamental principle of profitably for playing drawing hands requires that your pot odds are greater than your hand odds.
